Aceves has been working on a series of paintings for the last three years as a result of a visit to the Natural Histoy Museum in Paris and in particular to the exinct animals collection. The portraits of these animals, who extinction is owed to the urbanisation of their natural habitats, work as a metaphor for national migration. The large works push depictions of dark and light to expressionst extremes while presenting these animals in hostile landscapes, unprotected, but without the guilt that we as viewers cannot fail to recognise.
